Christmas Tablescaping

If you are hosting this Christmas, we are sure you will already know your menu and drinks plans, but have you considered how you will dress your table?

Christmas is a real feast for all the senses - the warming and spicy scent of cinnamon and mulled wine, the sounds of family favourite Christmas songs playing on the radio, the feel of your new Christmas jumper, the taste of seasonal delights (pigs in blankets, we are looking at you!), and of course, the stunning sights before you.

Christmas is a time of colour - bright wrapping paper and sparkly lights, festive flowers and twinkly tinsel, but what about adding a little extra colour to your Christmas set up with a tablescape to really set the festive scene?

Particularly popular at Christmas is the colour red - perhaps it reminds everyone of Father Christmas and the red noses on his faithful reindeer?

London Red is the perfect hue for this time of year - its a true and vibrant red, which pairs well with Jet Black, or Dove Grey for a contrast.

When planning your tablescape, consider how many people you will be seating and work out a rough table plan. Then add your recycled leather coasters and placemats along with cutlery, and crockery.  Finish with napkins - we like to use a contrasting colour to add some depth to the tablescape and another dimension.

Finally, once you have laid out your table plan per person, you can start to embellish with further creative touches - tealights in small glasses work well when paired with candlesticks to add some height. We like to reuse old wine or liquor bottles for our dinner candles which adds a rustic feel. Foliage from the garden will bring another texture and some of the outdoors inside - berries, eucalyptus and holly are great for this time of the year, and you may even be able to source some on your Christmas morning walk.

For an added touch of sparkle, you could add some string lights running down the centre of the table or coiled up into some old jam jars - these will twinkle away and look stunning with the rest of the tablescape.

We are keen on recycling at Lara May, so you will be able to reuse all of these decorations, including the foliage if you successfully dry it out afterwards – plus your table will look perfect for the Boxing Day buffet!
